The function display MS metadata (aka display spectra entries) is available from the View pull down menu and allows users to retrieve spectral metadata stored in the MS data files. The requested metadata information will be displayed in the command line window of MicrobeMS. The output of the command line window is stored per default in a logfile (logfile.txt, see the log-file for details).
To retrieve the metadata select first the respective mass spectra in the list box at the top left corner (the list box is labeled by MicrobeMS spectra ID`s). To select multiple spectra hold the <shift> key while selecting. Choose then display MS metadata → option #x from the View pull down menu. Option #x denotes options of specific metadata fields. In MicrobeMS version 0.78, the following options are offered:
- short - short output of the genus / species / strain information (GEN, SPE, STR)
- incl class ass - genus / species / strain information plus the class assignment (CLS)
- incl date - file id plus genus / species / strain information plus the measurement date and time (TIM)
- complete - the complete metadata (all fields, excl. laser power, LAS)
- type - genus / species / strain information plus the strain type info (TYP)
- tax id (species) - genus / species / strain information plus the Uniprot species id (UID)
- tax id (strain) - genus / species / strain information plus the Uniprot strain id (UIE)
- growth time - genus / species / strain information plus the growth time (GTI)
- growth temperature - genus / species / strain information plus the growth temperature (TEM)
- growth conditions - - genus / species / strain information plus the growth conditions - cultivation under aerobic or anaerobic conditions (AIR)
- growth medium - genus / species / strain information plus the growth medium (MED)
- sample treatment - genus / species / strain information plus the sample treatment information (TRT)
- spores - genus / species / strain information plus spore formers (YES or NO) (SPO)
- concentration - genus / species / strain information plus concentration (CON)
- extra info - genus / species / strain information plus extra info (EXT)
- laser power - genus / species / strain information plus laser power (LAS)
- calibration standard - genus / species / strain information plus calibration standard (CAL)
- measurement method - genus / species / strain information plus measurement method (MET)
- customer - - genus / species / strain information plus the customer info (CUS)
- measurement date/time - genus / species / strain information plus the measurement date and time (TIM)
- path to MS file - genus / species / strain information plus the full path to the MS data file fid (PTH)
- custom format I - custom format I used for documentation of MS databases
- custom format II - custom format II used for documentation of MS databases
MS metadata are also accessible through the context menu of the mass spectra given in the main user interface. Simply click with the right mouse button on the spectrum of interest.
